Ahhh, Sousuke learned the magic words. Yes indeedy. So I'm a little fuzzy on the "mature content" line ... would this cross it? I have a warning, to be on the safe side, but I'm not sure! Does it need more, or can it have less?

So today I started translating some of the Full Metal Panic 4Koma I got from, again, the biggest FMP fan I know - kittymisha.deviantart.com(~kit…. Dude, you should see her collection!

At any rate, I am hoping it's ok to post the trans since I did them myself and made them in PS CS3. I'm playing a little fast and loose with the translations because I really want to keep the funny feel (i.e. Mardukas saying "ORLY?"), but I'll try to stay as close as I can and still do that. I really worry about where to draw the line, but I usually stop myself before I go as far as I want in English. Honestly, the limited space keeps me more literal, because I just couldn't fit Kurz-rhythm English-speak in those vertical bubbles even if I were dying to. (I suspect that in later ones, I will be).

At any rate, let me know if my writing is illegible, and I'll start typing. The originals are handwritten (pretty damn messily), so uh, I tried to keep that, too ... but it's no good if you can't read it.

So it took me two days to finish "Lapis Lazuli", a Full Metal Panic fanart of Sousuke as a boy (aka Kashim) in the Badakshan province. The best lapis lazuli is found there, so it's no surprise that he has some (as revealed in Dancing Very Merry Christmas). Anyway, I thought since Chidori's hair was coincidentally the color of lapis, he might catch a glimpse of his fate one starry sunset ... Of course this only applies to the anime.

I'm not totally sure this was entirely my idea - maybe I read it in a fanfic? At any rate, I blame kittymisha.deviantart.com/(Oki… aka ~kittymisha) at least in part.

The reason it took two days was well, first of all, his right hand was a b!tch to draw no matter the number of mirrors I used. But overall, that pass was too overworked, and it showed. Furthermore, once I posted it to my maggiemarmalade.wordpress.com/… blog), along with the earlier sketches, I realized that I'd butchered his face.

Ironically, this was because I used the "flip technique" extensively, and frankly, the sketch looked better (flipped or not!) before I tried to fix it. But flipping got my doubts flowing, so I'm going to have to learn when I can trust my instincts and when I can't.

Anyway, it worked out because I think I learned a hell of a lot doing it twice.

Now I'm off to stumble through more of the final novel!! WHEE.
